Mouni Roy is an Indian model, Kathak dancer, singer, television, and film actress known for her work predominantly in Hindi films and the television industry. Mouni Roy was born on 28 September 1985 in a filmy background family in Cooch Behar, West Bengal.

His grandfather and mother have been well-known theater artists in West Bengal, due to which she has also been inclined towards acting from the beginning. She moved to Delhi after completing her 12th education from Kendriya Vidyalaya in Baburhat, West Bengal. There she obtained her graduation degree from Miranda University, recognized by Delhi University.

After this, she enrolled in the Mass Communication course at Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi. She started learning choreography during her college studies and after passing her first year of college, she decided to move to Mumbai to try her luck in Bollywood. Leaving her studies midway, she went to Mumbai, after which she never returned to Delhi.

Her interest in the field of art and acting was from childhood. She considers evergreen actresses like Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, and Madhuri Dixit as her idols since childhood and wants to make a mark like them in the industry. Mouni gave many auditions after coming to Mumbai where she had to face many rejections in the early days of her career.

In the year 2004, she first appeared as a background dancer in Nahi Hona, a song from the Bollywood film Run. She gained some recognition in the industry in the year 2006, when Mouni made her debut in the TV industry with Ekta Kapoor’s serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. In this serial, she played the role of Krishna Tulsi opposite Pulkit Samrat.

After this, in 2008, she worked in shows like Kaho Na Yaar Hai and Kasturi. Mouni participated in the first season of Star One’s dance show Zara Nach Ke Dikha along with Karishma Tanna and Jennifer Winget where she was the winner of the show. In 2008, she appeared in Pati Patni Aur Wo with Gaurav Chopra and in 2010 she also appeared in the serial Do Saheliyaan.

Roy played the lead role in the 2011 Punjabi film Hero Hitler in Love. Apart from this, from 2011 to 2014, she played the role of Sati in Life OK’s mythological show Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. In 2013, Roy played the lead role of Meera in the Life OK TV serial Junoon-Aisi Nafrat to Kaisa Ishq opposite Aditya Redij.

In 2014, Mouni Roy participated in the 7th season of Colors TV’s dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa along with Puneet Pathak. In the year 2015, Mouni played the role of Shivanya in Ekta Kapoor’s supernatural TV series Naagin opposite Arjun Bijlani and Adah Khan. The show topped all the TRP charts and made Mouni a household name with the name Shivanya.

Her popularity increased so much that people started knowing him not only in the country but also abroad as Shivanya. She has also appeared in Box Cricket League as a player for Arjun Bijlani’s team Mumbai Tigers. Mouni Roy also hosted &TV’s dance show So You Think You Can Dance along with Rithvik Dhanjani.

After this, she appeared in a double role in Naagin 2, in which she played the lead role opposite Karanvir Bohra. Her chemistry with Arjun Bijlani in Naagin and Karanvir Bohra in Naagin 2 was well received and loved by the audience. The immense success of the Naagin series established Mouni Roy in the list of highest-paid Actress in the Indian Television Industry.

In 2016, Mouni lent her voice to Mata Sita in an animated film Mahayoddha Rama. In the same year, she also appeared in a song Nachna Aunda Nahi of the film Tum Bin 2. After immense success in the television industry, she turned to films and played the lead role of Monobina opposite Akshay Kumar in the 2018 Bollywood film Gold.

In this film, she made her debut in the Bollywood film industry by playing the role of Akshay Kumar’s wife Monobina. Her role was appreciated by film critics. Gold Movie was a box office success with a worldwide business of ₹1.5 billion and at the same time, it became the first Indian film to be released in theaters in Saudi Arabia as well.

Roy then performed a dance in the item number song Gali Gali in the Hindi version of the South Indian superhit film KGF Chapter 1. This song has got more than 3.5 billion views on YouTube so far. In the year 2019, she made a cameo play in some final episodes of Naagin 3 in which she was seen in the role of Mahanagarani Shivangi.

In 2019 itself, she worked with actors John Abraham and Jackie Shroff in the Bollywood film Romeo Akbar Walter (RAW), in which she played the role of an Indian spy. The film was successful at the box office and earned over ₹100 crores in India. Her next Bollywood film was Made in China in which she worked with Rajkummar Rao.

The film was a box office success competing with other Bollywood films like Housefull 4 and Saand Ki Aankh which were released at the box office. In the year 2020, Mouni Roy made her OTT debut with the series London Confidential in which she played the role of a pregnant raw spy Uma Kulkarni.

In the year 2021, she will be seen in the film Bramhaastra directed by Ayan Mukherji and produced by Karan Johar. Prior to this, she has appeared in the song Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai sung by Jubeen Nautiyal. This song is being well-liked by the people on YouTube and has now garnered more than 100 million views.
