On Friday night, Junta-controlled media reported that the military council had filed charges against two well-known models for behavior that was deemed to have “harmed Myanmar culture.”

According to the statement, Nang Mwe San and Thinzar Wint Kyaw, both 34, have been charged under Section 33a of the 2004 Electronic Transactions Law with publishing pornographic material for financial gain on adul*t entertainment websites.

The relevant statute forbids conduct that “endangers the security of the State or the maintenance of law and order or the peace and tranquility of the community or the unity of the nation or the national economy or national culture.”

The women could receive a seven to a fifteen-year prison sentence if found guilty.
