The relevant statute forbids conduct that “endangers the security of the State or the maintenance of law and order or the peace and tranquility of the community or the unity of the nation or the national economy or national culture.”

The women could receive a seven to a fifteen-year prison sentence if found guilty.

When Thinzar Wint Kyaw and Nang Mwe San were taken into custody was not made clear in the junta’s announcement.
