Salman Rushdie, a well-known author who has long faced death threats from fanatics, was injured on Friday before a scheduled speech in western New York, according to state police.

According to a declaration from New York State Police Maj. Eugene J. Staniszewski, a man attacked Rushdie and a questioner at the Chautauqua Institution, about 70 miles south of Buffalo, around 11 a.m.

Rushdie was transported by helicopter to a nearby emergency clinic after suffering an obvious neck cut. The statement reads, “His condition is unknown at this time.

Authorities reported that the subject of the inquiry had a minor head injury.

A state officer assigned to the case quickly made the suspect into custody. He didn’t get his name.

Rushdie is praised for his provocative fusion of mystical authenticity and verifiable moral story, making him one of the most acclaimed writers of today.

It sparked fights and prompted Iran’s Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to issue a fatwa, or declaration, calling for his execution.

Rushdie had to spend a lot of time hiding out under a rock due to the firestorm.
