Aurat March will be held in multiple cities for the fifth year in a row. Participants will gather at the historical landmark, as is customary, for speeches and tableaux.
This year’s demands for ‘Aurat March’
The Aurat March is an annual socio-political demonstration held to commemorate International Women’s Day in Pakistani cities such as Lahore, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar.
Women’s collectives started the first Aurat Marches on International Women’s Day, coinciding with the Pakistani #MeToo movement. The first march took place in Karachi on March 8, 2018.
The march advocates for more responsibility for violence against women and stands in solidarity with women who are subjected to assault and harassment by security personnel in public spaces, at home, and at work.
