The accused killer of journalist Athar Mateen arrested in Khuzdar

According to reports, the primary suspect in the assassination of journalist Athar Mateen in Balochistan’s Khuzdar area has been apprehended.

Abid Ameen, the culprit who was engaged in the death of the journalist during a robbery attempt in Karachi, was apprehended after a joint police and law enforcement search. During the operation, police also apprehended four additional suspects.

The arrest in the province’s Khuzdar area has been verified by the Balochistan administration. Bushra Rind, Parliamentary Secretary to the Balochistan Chief Minister on Information, claimed the main suspect was detained after Sindh police discovered his presence in Khuzdar. According to Rind, the main suspect is a Khuzdar resident who was apprehended in a combined raid by Sindh and Balochistan police.

Unknown armed men opened fire on a car in Karachi’s Nazimabad neighbourhood, killing a local journalist named Athar Mateen who was attempting to stop a mugging attempt.

When the event happened, police stated the journalist was attempting to stop a mugging attempt. They said the thieves were looting a civilian when Mateen’s vehicle collided with them, prompting them to open fire and murder him on the spot.

Athar was shot three times, according to SSP Central Maroof Usman, and two empty 30-bore gun shells were retrieved. The slain journalist has a history of working for a private news network. The assassination was heavily denounced by the media community and politicians, who decried the city’s growing lawlessness and street violence.
