Last night, a law enforcement agency raided former interior minister Sheikh Rashid’s media centre in Islamabad to arrest him in the Masjid-e-Nabwi case.
The operation took place in Sector F-Seven Four at a house. Sheikh Rashid, the leader of the Awami League, confirmed the raid.
Sheikh Rashid, the former Interior Minister, claimed that law enforcement officials arrived late at night but left without being arrested. During the raid, Islamabad police were said to be present alongside Faisalabad police, according to Pakistani media.
Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, the nephew of former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, was arrested at the Islamabad airport in the early hours of Sunday after arriving from Saudi Arabia.
The arrest was made in connection with the chanting of anti-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation slogans at Masjid-e-Nabawi.
According to sources close to the airport staff, Shafiq flew to Pakistan on a private plane.
Rashid confirmed his nephew’s detention, saying he had just arrived in Pakistan after performing Umrah when he was detained.
“Despite the fact that none of us were in Saudi Arabia, cases were still filed against us.” After the cases are registered, residences are raided,” Rashid said, condemning the arrest.
