Taji Khokhar: Who Is He?

Imtiaz Ali Khokhar, also known as Taji Khokhar, was detained by Rawalpindi police on Wednesday night on suspicion of land grabbing.

Taji Khokhar, whose name was already on the Anti-Terrorism Act’s fourth schedule, was detained alongside 22 other people as part of a campaign against criminal gangs. He will undergo a medical examination before being brought into court.

Khokhar was listed as the head of the “333” gang and was one of the top 20 “most wanted” individuals, according to the police. According to a report in Dawn, a senior police official claimed that the 333 gang was responsible for target killings, land grabbing, and extortion.

Taji Khokhar is a notorious gangster in Rawalpindi and the brother of Haji Nawaz Khokhar, a former deputy speaker of the National Assembly for the Pakistan Peoples Party. He is also Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar’s uncle, a PPP senator.

In 2015, police in Rawalpindi executed a raid on his “dera,” and they found a sizable cache of weapons and drugs. 3000 bottles of alcohol and about 67 guns were found. At his home, a bear and a few lions were also discovered. 14 Afghan nationals were also discovered by law enforcement officials at the dera. Police even found boots worn by Pakistani military personnel and drone surveillance cameras. Taji Khokhar is so feared and powerful that a police fleet of 30 cars showed up at his dera.

Due to a land dispute, Taji Khokhar was sentenced to prison in 2013 for the murder of a woman in Dhoke Gangal. On the basis of his medical condition, he had received post-arrest bail in the murder case in 2017.

Taji Khokhar was alleged to have played a significant role in the acquisition of land for the Defense Housing Authority in a report published in Dawn in 2012. Property tycoon Malik Riaz was also listed in the report, and he has recently made headlines due to a settlement with the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom.

Such claims have been made by numerous other people. Ahmed Noorani, a journalist, claimed on Twitter that Taji Khokhar was more powerful than anyone and that the establishment had used him for decades to carry out killings and land occupations. Taji was recently arrested.

Fahd Malik, a well-known lawyer from Islamabad, was brutally murdered in 2016. Fahad, the nephew of former senate chair Mian Muhammad Soomro, came from a prominent political family. It was discovered that the murder’s perpetrators were members of Taji Khokhar’s notorious 333 gang. Fahd Malik was attempting to resolve a conflict between several gangs, including the ones that would later assassinate him. Raja Arshad, the assassin who also belonged to the 333, said after killing Fahd Malik in front of the public that this was what happened to lawyers who got involved in their cases.

One of the 333 gang members, Zafar Supari, is also well-known for his TikTok videos, in which he and his cohorts can be seen flaunting their opulent lifestyles and expensive vehicles while frequently making the triple-finger symbol for the dreaded 333 gangs.
