Maria Shimon, the daughter of a Quetta-based driver, has won the Balochistan Public Service Commission (PSC) test for Assistant Commissioner, defying all odds.

Maria Shimon, a member of the Christian community, is now resolved to utilise the milestone as a starting stone toward giving her parents with a comfortable existence.

The child told a private news outlet that she was overjoyed to have received first place in the exams. “Despite their modest means, my parents have made every effort to educate their eight children,” she continued.

Maria expressed her admiration for her father and homemaker mother, who never let money get in the way of her academic pursuits.

“It would not have been possible without their encouragement and blessing.” My parents were always a source of inspiration for me. “I would now like my parents, who have done so much for me, to enjoy a comfortable existence,” the Christian girl said.

Parkash Kumar, the son of a poor mason, finished first in Sindh and fourth overall in the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) last year.

Kumar, a student in a government school in the coastal area of Badin, finished first out of 7,797 students in Sindh and fourth out of 194,133 students who took the MDCAT from August to October.

Born in the distant village of Kharyo Ghulam Shah, 30 kilometres from Islamkot in the sand-swept Tharparkar district, he moved with his father, Chando Mal, and the rest of the family to Ghulab Laghari, a tiny town in Badin district close to Tharparkar district, around 15 years ago.
