Muhammad Safdar Awan or Captain (retd) Safdar Awan is a well known Pakistani politician and retired army officer. Muhammad Safdar Awan is currently a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He belongs to political party Pakistan Muslim League (N). Safdar Awan was served as the president of the PML-N Youth Wing.
Muhammad Safdar Awan was born on 19 January 1964 in Manshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He got his early education from Chakwal and is a graduate of Military College Jehlum. He is the husband of the daughter of Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif. He is a retired army officer. Safdar married Maryam in 1992 while he was serving as captain and later he took retirement from the army. Family Muhammad Ishaq is the father of Muhammad Safdar Awan. He Married to Nawaz Sharif daughter Maryam Nawaz in 1992. They have three children. A son named Junaid Safdar, and two daughters called Mehrunnisa Safdar and Mahnoor Safdar.
Education
Muhammad Safdar Awan belongs to the beautiful terrain of District Mansehra and an educated family. He did his matriculation from Mansehra, after that he joined Post Graduate College Abbottabad for his intermediate. He studied Islamic history, economics, and Physics in his intermediate. He then did his graduation in Statistics and Economics.
Political Career
Muhammad Safdar Awan was ambassador to, vice-chancellor of the Punjab University and then as Governor of Punjab. The general stayed as the governor of Punjab till 29 October 2001 when he was replaced by Lahore Corp commander Lt Gen Khalid Maqbool.
- Safdar is a retired Pakistan Army officer on the rank of captain.
- Safdar served as the assistant commissioner of Lahore Model Town.
- He ran for the seat of the National Assembly as an independent candidate from NA-35 Islamabad in Pakistani general election, 1990 but was unsuccessful and secured only 108 votes.
- In by-elections held in June 2008 following the Pakistani general election, 2008, Safdar was elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the first time on PML-N ticket from constituency Rawalpindi. In 2012, Safdar has suspended the membership of PML-N. In Pakistani general election, 2013, Safdar was elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the second time on PML-N ticket from constituency Mansehra.
Safdar is the president of the PML-N Youth Wing.

Renaming of University
Muhammad Safdar Awan, who is former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law, criticized the renaming of Quaid-i-Azam University’s (QAU) physics center after Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, the country’s first Nobel prize holder. The grounds for the lawmaker’s objections being the scientist’s Ahmadi faith. The renaming of the physics center had been approved in December 2016 by Nawaz Sharif, who had also approved a grant for five annual fellowships for Pakistani Ph.D. students. Imprisonment
On 6th of July 2018, the Accountability court announced its decision about the Avenfield reference where Sharif family including Nawaz Sharif , Maryam Nawaz and Retired Captain Safdar got imprisonment with fine of many million. Captain Safdar got imprisonment of only 1 year and haven’t charged any fine. After 2 days of decision Safdar Awan arrested himself and is in Jail.
