Sohail Mahmood on Wednesday (April 17) assumed charge as Foreign Secretary and called on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad.
Qureshi congratulated the newly appointed foreign secretary on assuming charge and said Mahmood is a seasoned and experienced diplomat. “He has a long experience of serving at important positions including as the high commissioner to India,” Qureshi said.

Sohail, who is currently severing as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India, has vast diplomatic experience. He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in October 1985. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa), Mahmood served as additional secretary for Afghanistan/West Asia as well as Director General for Americas and the Foreign Secretary’s Office among other jobs.
Earlier a farewell ceremony, attended by senior officials of Foreign Office and a large number of foreign diplomats and ambassadors, was held at Foreign Office in Islamabad on Friday (April 12) in honor of outgoing Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua.
