Sheema Kermani, a renowned classical dancer in Pakistan, has shown her support for Nirmala Maghani, a singer from Umerkot whose song has been plagiarised by snobbish music producer Xulfi.
Sheema Kermani said on Facebook,
“Truth must prevail Nirmala Maghani keep up the fight- we are with you! This cheating must end! I have seen so much of my own work copied and plagiarised, my music used without my permission and of course no acknowledgment, it is shameful, but we must raise our voices against this.”
Maghani alleged earlier this week that Coke Studio producer Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan (Xulfi) plagiarised her composition for the song. She mentioned that she sent her song to Xulfi since she wanted to be a part of the forthcoming season of Coke Studio.
However, Xulfi did not respond at the moment. Magnani was first ignorant of the plagiarism until the release of ‘Tu Jhoom,’ sung by Abida Parveen and Naseebo Lal. It was at this point that she realised one of the tunes she had provided to Xulfi had become a Coke Studio smash. Worse, she had received no credit.
Maghani said that she had been attempting to contact Xulfi since the song’s debut. Xulfi’s sole comment was that, despite the blue ticks, he did not download her audio file.
Season 14 of Coke Studio premiered on January 14th. Sufi singer Abida Parveen and Punjabi musician Naseebo Lal started off season 14 Coke Studio with a classic single ‘Tu Jhoom.’
