The latest Vax Live campaign by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has attracted criticism.
In honour of their son Archie’s birthday, the Duke and Duchess of Susse**x, who served as the event’s campaign chairs, urged fans to donate to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
On their Archwell page, they stated:
“Join us in advocating for vaccine equity on Archie’s birthday”.
“We cannot think of a more resonant way to honour our son’s birthday.
“If we all show up, with compassion for those we both know and don’t know, we can have a profound impact.
“Even a small contribution can have a ripple effect.”
They also stated that a $5 contribution will be matched by organisers to make a total of $20, allowing for the procurement of four vaccines.
However, the two have come under fire because, while their Hollywood peers have donated millions of dollars for the cause, they have yet to make a significant contribution themselves.
One social media user found the couple’s riches “obscene,” while they urged their followers to “celebrate the birthday of their fabulously privileged boy” by fundraising for vaccines.
Another individual stated:
“I wonder how much they donate themselves to these causes”.
A third social media user claimed it was like
“Robin Hood in reverse”.
