Victim stopped ‘Arab tourists’ from hunting in the area
PPP leader and a Sindh Assembly member Jam Awais has been arrested in Nazim Jokhio murder case. He was nominated in the FIR registered on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Afzal Ahmed Jokhio.
The MPA was booked under Section 302 [murder], 34 [common intention] of the Pakistan Penal Code. The two main suspects, Haider and Mir Ali, have already been arrested.
According to protestors, Jokhio was beaten to death for stopping some foreign friends of Jam Awais from hunting Houbara bustards in Karachi’s Memon Goth. The group attacked Nazim Jokhio with fists and sticks.
His body was found at the door of Jam House in Memon Goth, the police said.
The video of the argument before the murder went viral on the internet. The men in question were traveling in a Safari Patrol bearing Dubai number plates parked in the middle of an unpaved road. The victim confronted the people inside the car and asked them why they had blocked the road. A man sitting next to the driver stepped out of the car and snatched his phone.
The murder victim’s family and neighbors staged a protest outside the Memon Goth police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the foreign nationals.
The family claimed that the accused group had called them to “settle” the matter. “The group even tried to bury the body after killing him,” the family insisted.
“Hours later, when the victim didn’t return home, we searched for him and saw the group hiding the body.”
JPMC’s Additional Police Surgeon (APS) Sumayya Syed said that it would be premature to comment about the cause of death. “The body, especially his abdomen, bore torture marks,” she said.
“Samples have been obtained for chemical analysis and histopathological tests to determine the cause of death,” the APS told SAMAA Digital.
