Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and son of Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi,Moonis Elahi on Friday (May 3) expressed disappointment and criticized the new local body system in the Punjab.
The leader took to Twitter and said: “KP and Punjab can’t be compared . The difference in size of population is huge. PTI needs to rethink strategy of copy and pasting KP formula”.
“Several inherent faults. Starting with taking already a significant number of 4000+ units ( union councils) to 24000 + village councils / panchaits . This will increase your administrative expense 6 times. Minimum of 8 billion every year wasted on salaries and expenses”, he said in another tweet.

Punjab Assembly had earlier on Tuesday (April 30) passed two Bills to replace the existing local bodies with a new local government system amid protest by opposition parties, particularly the PML-N.
Punjab Local Government Bill, 2019 and Punjab Panchayats and Neighbourhood Councils Bill, 2019 will come into effect once Punjab Governor gives his assent. As a result, the present local government representatives would lose their office. The Punjab government plans to hold elections for the new local bodies within one year.
