Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are said to be in heavy mourning after Prince Philip’s passing.
Julie Montagu and Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, Countess of Sandwich made this remark.
During an interview with a foreign news organisation,
Ms. Montagu told the publication that she knows Meghan and Harry are both heartbroken about the prince consort’s unexpected death.
According to reports, she said,
“I’m sure Harry and Meghan are as heartbroken as I am over this news. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not yet issued a formal announcement about Prince Philip’s death.
Earlier, Buckingham Palace issued the following statement:
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
Further announcements will be made in due course.
The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
According to sources, the Duke of Edinburgh was in poor health prior to his death, having spent days in hospital after being ill in February.
In July 2020, he made his last public appearance when he handed over the ceremonial position of colonel-in-chief of The Rifles to his daughter-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
