Five people, including a security agency official, have been suspended for torturing television personality and journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan in the Saddar neighbourhood of the city yesterday, according to Geo News.
During the filming of his show “Sar-e-Aam,” authorities tormented and battered him, causing significant injuries. He was transported to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
The event came to light after his photos went popular on social media. Hassan accused five authorities of torturing him. The authorities were later suspended.
According to the police, neither Hassan nor the administration of the private channel filed a complaint at a police station seeking legal action, thus the police have taken no action on their own.
The authorities who mistreated the anchorperson had already been suspended on the day of the occurrence. Syed Moinuddin Rizwan Mehboob Ali, Rajab Ali, and Khawar are among the suspended officials.
The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) denounced the incident, saying that “it is not appropriate to take out anger on a journalist’s investigative report; yet, such cowardly action cannot prevent a media from carrying out its duty.”
