Kate Middleton and Prince William have been together for almost two decades.
Although their relationship proved to be nothing short of a fairytale, the two did have their fair share of hiccups along the way.
The now Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly broke up in 2007 after rumours about their marriage erupted, giving the future king cold feet. That’s why he allegedly called Kate at work and broke up with her over the phone, according to Mirror Online.
They also later agreed that the breakup had strengthened them.
Kate later stated:
“At the time, I wasn’t very happy about it, but it made me a stronger person. You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised.”
“I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger. I really valued that time for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time,”
she added, as per Mirror Online.
“We were both very young… we were both finding ourselves and being dif¬ferent characters. It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up, so it was just a bit of space and it worked out for the better.”
Katie Nicholl, a royal expert, also discussed William and Kate’s breakup and how the former had confided in his boss, Prince Charles, and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, when he became concerned about the situation.
“William had second thoughts and sat down with his father and grandmother to have a candid conversation about his future with Kate. “Both told him not to rush into anything,” Nicholl was quoted by the portal as saying.
According to the report’s sources, Her Majesty was saddened by the pair’s split.
Kate finally began to work her way back into the royal family after months of hiding her feelings behind a smile at numerous trips with friends when she and William were seen together at an Army party at a barracks in Bovington, Dorset.
Not long after, they agreed on a marriage pact during their secret Seychelles getaway with their official engagement being announced in November 2010. The two tied the knot in a royal ceremony in April 2011 at Westminster Abbey.
